We are excited to welcome our keynote speakers: Jo Boaler and Linard McCloud!
Jo Boaler Pedagogical Variety Teaching mathematics is complex, and no single approach works for every student or every lesson. Yet some people create false dichotomies— arguing for direct instruction over group work, or procedures over concepts—that do not reflect how students learn. In this session, we will explore how using pedagogical variety helps teachers support all learners. Drawing on classroom examples, we will examine when and why different structures—whole-class instruction, individual sense-making, collaborative work at tables, and standing at whiteboards—can be most effective. Participants will see how collaboration becomes mathematically productive when supported by clear norms, groupworthy tasks, and teacher decision-making. The focus will be on practical strategies and task design that promote reasoning, visualization, and connection-making in classrooms. |
